Gå&Må is a social gamified health application targeted senior people. They saw a gap in the market for social and health application towards seniors above age 65+ and wanted to make a application boosting mental and physical health with an gamified app. As a concept they had Health, Well-being and rewards. So you earn point by walking, reading articles that you can spend on real gifts from partners like books, coffee, boat trip etc. They had a early prototype but they wanted to do a initial redesign and then iterate and design new features and content while they grew and created new partnership. So they were looking for a fast paced designer that could keep up with a fast moving startup.
For the redesign I did a full UX audit and Mood board of both UX improvements and Look and feel. As a core visual the step counter was a initial important element that I drew inspirations from other health apps but also more traditional gauge meters. I concluded that a circle progress would work well with spacing. I also made it look like a sun to vibe with the overall nature friendly theme with the application. For coloring I took inspiration from the Gå&Mås use of green and blue to give the health and nature value feeling. But I changed the color palette to match accessibility better and created darker colors for making information and interactive elements more visible. Lastly I made background graphics for the nice nature feeling.
Gå&Må has a mix of content with health articles, games, challenges and rewards. So to be able to different the different content while keeping a consistent feeling I worked with creating a theme component for content with tweaks for different content type. I worked with soft shadows with rounded corners to give a friendly but interactive feeling with large popping call-to-action buttons. I also created and added a coin icon to keep it consistent and mark where you get your gamified points from.
To keep the engagement going I designed events and games in the app. From a early analytic we could see that the engagement during the summer months. To drive the engagement during the summer I designed a summer Boost event that increased the points earned during the summer. This friendly event notification increased engagement by 2x.
Similar we saw a lower engagement in the weekends. I designed a Bonanza game where you get challenged every weekend who can walk most steps. Which had a dramatic increase of users turning in the app. (Will post numbers soon)
Also to keep up the engagement I designed brain-health games, polls, avatar, social interactions, social invitations, characters and many more coming events and games. During the year 2025 this has had a dramatic increase in the apps engagement of the Gå&Må app and are joining on of the best Startup incubator in Sweden STING. (I will post some engagement numbers soon)
